DON’T BANK ON IT
I want to talk about banks. You know, those massive financial institutions that power the world of commerce and keep our money safe. You know, those institutions that used to be thought noble, but are now run by con men.
Once upon a time, in the UK, banks were little money-shops in every high street. You’d go in to deposit money, or take it out, and if you ever wanted to borrow, then you’d be interviewed by the bank manager, who usually said no.
But he said no for a good reason.
He said no because he realised you simply couldn’t afford the loan you wanted. In this way, the bank was protected, and so were you. It was a good system, before we became enthralled by the credit god.
Now you never see the bank manager – in most instances you never even see the bank. They’ve retreated behind anonymity and electronic walls to keep you away from them. And like little conspirators, they do what they want with your money in the shadows.
And there’s nothing you can do about it.
This is because they realized the cleverest of cons. What was this you may ask? They convinced us that they could safeguard our money by having more control over it.
They are now in charge of your money. Not you. Oh, how stupid we are!
