A MODERATE KIND OF GUY

What’s on today: About time we got rid of fanatics, don’t you think? … PLUS … Is an independent Kosovo a clever idea or not? Oh dear, recession on the way.
YOU KNOW IT’S THE WRITE WAY
A MODERATE KIND OF GUY
Let’s take feminism. One view on the subject is that women should stay in the home, cook Hubby his dinner, clean the house and leave things in the real world to men. After all, this is how it’s been through most of history.
Alternatively, men have had it good for too long. Women are far superior in many ways, and the world would be a better place if they were in charge. So move aside you men – women rule, OK!
Both arguments are, of course, absolute rubbish. Yet …
In some fields I’d accept women were superior to men. This is because both male and female bring different attributes to a job – basically, equal but different. And similarly, some women prefer to stay in the home.
The world is varied and both my opening views can apply in certain conditions. So what is wrong with my opening statements? The problem is the degree to which the idea is taken – to the point of the absolute; to the region of fanaticism.
This is the problem with many ideas today.
A thinker will get something into his head and decide that is how the world should be. Well, sorry, the world just isn’t like that. Rather, the world is, other than a small percentage of fanatics, a moderate kind of place.
Infact, I’d say over 90% of people just want to get on with life, but are constantly pulled this way or that by a minority of loud mouthed morons who think they know best. Well, fanatics, you don’t. For no matter what sphere you are ranting in, you are wrong.
Fanaticism, you see, is always wrong. To me, there is only one way to a form of knowledge that is acceptable. And that is the way of the moderate.

Fanatics come, fanatics go,
bringing man to a terrible low;
Fanatics rave, fanatics shout,
telling us what it’s all about;
Fanatics lie, fanatics cheat,
one day they’ll cause a nuclear heat;
Fanatics, they get in your head,
despite the moderate warnings said;
but don’t worry,
this time, only ten million dead!

THE KOSOVO PROBLEM
So, Kosovo breaks away from Serbia to become an independent state. Now, let me make it clear from the beginning, I supported NATO’s intervention in Kosovo, and it was right to stop the aspirations of the then Serbian government …

RECESSION TIME
The governor of the Bank of England has admitted that the economy may grind to a halt this year. At last, a bit of honesty! Maybe he will also apologise for using every device to keep the ‘good times’ going, knowing the longer it did, the worst it will fall …

Hi Brian,
It amazes me why the world is how it is when most think this way. We speak of the ’silent majority’ in the UK. Madness.

Hello love,
I can only answer to the fanatics post since I’ve not read the others yet. I suppose you could call me a fanatic at times when you put it the way you do and that’s just dandy with me. Fanatical, maniacal – either one would do at times. Then of course are the times I’m not fanatical and quite moderate – even to the point of being fanatical about my moderation…
Yeah, I’m smiling here.
You commented on my blog and I have been meaning to come visit you along with several others but durn, there’s only so much time and so little me. You had said you’re on a new learning curve and I am as well so that, coupled with having a hard time seeing has been making things rather harder than they should be I think – at least that’s the excuse I’m using. Some things are hard to learn; especially when we’re our own teachers.
When I wrote a post about another stupid “meme”, I wanted to tag you because it was entitled “What are you reading?” and it’s something I always want to know about people –
So -
What *are* you reading?
I do hope you’re having a peaceful, beautiful day where ever you are.
Always peace, always love.

Hi RubyShooZ,
Good to hear from you. I suppose fanaticism in the sense I mean is what it does to others. For instance, a person can be a fundamentalist Christian, but NOT judge others. It is when you try to ‘change’ others that it comes into its own – and totally wrong when you try to force change.
We’re thinking along similar lines in one sense. On The Daily Grail, a site I debate on often, they have by-lines on comments. My most used one is: I’m fanatical about moderation
What am I reading at the moment? I usually have loads of books on at the same time. I’m re-reading many of Poe’s short stories. I’ve got into a short biography of Sir Christopher Wren. I’ve always got one or two encyclopedias on the Unexplained by my side. And I’m also quite enjoying a collection of short stories by Philip K Dick.
Still a hundred or so waiting for attention, though.

Hi Artemisangel,
Many thanks. Learning curves are rejuvenating – good thing, me thinks, as the hair begins greying

Now if you were Buddhist Anthony, the fanatic would fade into one with the Universe. Ohmmmmmmmmm

Hi Brian,
One more time, everyone. A great big:
