POLLY TICKS
We’re Commodities
Political correctness and Big Biz have a hidden relationship. PC
has the unfortunate end product of destroying meaning in any
major culture. This is good for Big Biz, as taking away any form
of meaning leaves the person finding meaning in consumerism.
Everything becomes a commodity, and nothing holds importance
other than your spending power.

It’s tentacles wrapping around your head,

THE UNIFORM
Fiction: She cried after she’d laid out the uniform. It seemed
so empty, the love of her life no longer there, a casualty of
war. Suddenly, she noticed it was moving, as if animated. At
first she was frightened, but as his form appeared, she couldn’t
help but notice the serene smile on his face. Gone were the
injuries she knew he had sustained; and by the time he had
said goodbye, hers, too, had been given leave to heal.

TONY’S MUSE DIARY
Him Outside has reluctantly allowed me to start blogging now, so I’ll be
a regular here from now on – as long as he doesn’t change his mind –
again! The family is all down with a cold – again! And on top of his
cfs, he’s feeling sorry for himself – again! But it didn’t stop His Dearest
going visiting. Although, in today’s climate, he did advise her to try
not to sneeze on the train – didn’t want her arrested under the
Anti-Terrorism Laws. Wonder how the flu panic will pan out when Hay
Fever hits next month? It snot funny.

Oh no! I am not going to be tempted. This is my 6 am morning read with my tea, so I am going to force myself to wait so I can really devour it!
Quilly said
I loved The Uniform and the word from your muse. Such a lot said with so few words.
Neverending story said
I’m on familiar footing with anxiety, and know fear which I treat with faith but have only experienced terror once during a near death experience when I had malaria, it took me awhile to recover. Thanks for the poem.
anthonynorth said
Hi Amias,
Enjoy your tea. I’m pleased you consider this a more hearty meal than breakfast
Hi Quilly,
Thanks for that. The old muse has been trying to burst out into blogging for some time. I don’t think I can stop it now
anthonynorth said
Hi Neverending Story,
Thanks for that. Most people see the NDE as a tranquil event but, whilst studying it myself, I was surprised that bad experiences within it have quite often happened. Thanks for that confirmation.
SandyCarlson said
Fear…perhaps the experience is better left unsaid. So true.
anthonynorth said
Hi Sandy,
Yes, it’s the best way, I’m sure.
Edward S. Gault said
You’ve got FEAR right. Very Difficult to convey to readers in the abstract I find.
Nice Poem, thank you!
anthonynorth said
Hi Edward,
Thanks for that. It IS difficult to do.

We’re Commodities – I couldn’t have said it any better, and it pisses me off! But what can one do, according to this standard; being bankrupted I have no value at all.
My Columnists — These guys seems very interesting to say the least. Look forward to checking them out.
Eye On the World – I clicked on the “Individuality & More”, as I recall reading it and wondering to myself, how to comment on a person who thoughts about so much just blew me away. I felt uncomfortable at first, but your writing was so engaging, I said oh what the hell, and jumped right in!
Newsflash – seems to me you need to put a little in here about America, as both countries are sisters, so to speak. I enjoyed reading the tidbits.
“Awakening Night” gave me a chuckle or two … eek!
What it’s like – fear … this made me shiver, but not in a good way, because I have respect for Lord Fear, it governs everything in my life.
The Uniform – a beautiful story of healing, and very visual, indeed.
Destiny – this acrostic was scary. Well written, but scary never the less.
Tony’s Musing – I laughed until I cried. Hay fever season, I am going to stay in doors, because I know I will be arrested!
Antony, this was a two cupper. I have to say, I really enjoyed my state here this morning. Keep up the good work, as I am not only entertained, I am also educated and enlightened. Thank you.

Hi Amias,
Many thanks for this comprehensive comment today. It’s always great to know what people think of my posts. It makes it all worthwhile. Thoroughly enjoyed your thoughts.
With my NewsFlash I often get comments about the same thing going on over the pond. We are so very close to each other, which is how it should be.

Hi Anthony,
Happy Mother’s Day to all your readers who are & to your wife.
I cannot imagine Great Britain not being our very best of friends. In todays world, that very fact should be considered- as we once were warring enemies. Does GB share this type of warm & trusting relationship with all it’s former colonies? I think we will always have each others backs.
Destiny- immediately drew Poe to mind. Read alot of his poems as a teenager.
Be back later- lots of interesting writings to comment on today!
anthonynorth said
Hi Linda,
Thanks for that, although the UK celebrated Mothers’ Day back in March, but much appreciated. Here, we have a close relationship with many of the former colonies, shown by the existence of the Commonwealth of Nations, a worldwide organisation of former British colonies, who work together on so many things.
We often come together in events such as the Commonwealth Games, and on Remembrance Sunday you will see all the Commonwealth High Commissioners from so many countries standing with the Queen and Prime Minister to lay wreaths to the fallen, in London.
Linda G said
Hi Anthony,
How many former colonies do not belong to the Commonwealth?
Very ethnocentric of me to assume Mother’s Day would be celebrated round the world on the same day. That is a hard habit to break- but important to be mindful of.
Travis said
I liked The Uniform…so very poignant.
anthonynorth said
Hi Linda,
I think most of them are in the Commonwealth, as they existed in 1884, when it began. Occasionally a State is suspended, as is Zimbabwe at this time. Here’s a link all about it:

Hi Travis,
Thanks for that. I wasn’t sure how this one would go down, but it seems to have been well received.
Pam said
It’s all about the fear– 24 hours a day. Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could just make one single day a day without any fear!
anthonynorth said
Hi Pam,
It would be delightful. Ah, if only …

10 pounds for horse manure? I’d have thought those MPs manufactured quite enough bulls..t of their own.
I like your new Muse section, AN – good idea! He (or she?) might divulge a few secrets now and then too.
Deborah Godin said
Leave unsaid, perhaps – but you did describe it very well – tentacles!

“Wonder how the flu panic will pan out when Hay
Fever hits next month? It snot funny”.
Ha! Ha! I love a good(?) pun. Thank for the laugh. The rest of your posts, as per usual, made me think as well as smile. Cheers, David.
anthonynorth said
Hi Twilight,
Oh yes, there’s plenty of bull coming out of them at the moment as they defend their ‘entitlements’.
As for the muse, it’s a mouthy entity, that’s for sure
Hi Deborah,
Thanks for that. Tentacles, indeed.
Hi David,
Many thanks. I can’t hope for anything more than that.
Jim said
Hi Anthony, I had that fear for nothing one night. We had a bad light switch in the kitchen and I woke up one night with the light on. I just knew someone was in there. I went out with a board in hand (no gun then), … oh well.
Liked your muse too, I have a DIL who could fit that problem.
..
anthonynorth said
Hi Jim,
Thanks for that recollection. I’ve had a few frights myself waking up in the middle of the night. You never know, the muse may write about some of them
Beth Patterson said
Snot funny? Tis so! Glad you’re finally going to let your poor muse out for some air…
Ah, what it’s like…to live full of fear. Been there, don’t plan to live there anymore!
Thanks, Tony–

‘£10 for horse manure’ – that’s only the tip of the iceberg…LOL!
Donnetta Lee said
“…self made horror…” I really like that phrase. And aren’t many of the horrors in our lives self made? I had a friend once who told me that the worst wounds were the self inflicted kind. And oh, tis true! D
anthonynorth said
Hi Beth,
Yes, fear can be crippling. Nowadays, all I worry about is what that muse might say.
Hi Julia,
It is indeed. They’ve been having quite a spendfest on the tax payer.
Hi Donnetta,
Very true words. Often our worst enemy is within.
Nave said
Your posts are delight to read sir.. Its so nicely packed together like an ezine… I love the acrostic.. very hard hitting
anthonynorth said
Hi Nave,
Thanks for that. You’ve got exactly what I’m trying to do here – a magazine in a post.

Fear – strong, strong. I can feel it! Excellent…
anthonynorth said
Hi Tumblewords,
It’s a powerful feeling. Something to be feared itself.

we are told that only in spending can you save your country. it’s already gone.
fear so palpable it wraps itself around you-shh, don’t breath. they’ll hear you…
anthonynorth said
Hi Gabrielle,
Yes, they’ll try anything to keep us spending, won’t they? Including putting the fear of failure to spend upon us.
Tammy said
I try to never let it in, but you described that moment when I start to fall but somehow catch myself. Fear consumes me for a minute. Unavoidable emotion.
anthonynorth said
Hi Tammy,
This is so true. For a moment, it can capture everyone.
