Celeb Memoirs
Should celebrities write memoirs? Of course they should.
The problem comes with people who want to read them. Now,
let’s separate celebrities first. There are two types – those
who have achieved something of genius, and the trivia-based
celebrity for celebrity’s sake.
The first can often be rewarding reads;
the latter is indulgence from both them
and us.
But then again, Big Biz does need something for us all to aspire
to – to become the ultimate consumer. For in reading about how
seemingly ordinary people can have it all, we are entranced
and seduced to follow.

scrapped. ID cards scaled back. What U-turn
today, folks? Govt is on the run – and dizzy.
BRIT NEWS: Brown’s measures to sort out economy are clearly
a Labour Party manifesto. Doesn’t he realise govt and Party are
different? Utter contempt.
BRIT NEWS: Recession deeper than expected.
2.4% slump in output in 1st quarter of

FLASH 55 – THE CRASH
Fiction: It seemed a normal night. There was nothing to prepare them
for what would happen. They had gathered as they normally did, and,
UFO geeks they may be, but when the flying saucer crashed they
were shocked. Slowly they gathered around it in awe. ‘Gee,’ one of
them said, ‘your girlfriend sure has a temper.’
BRIT SPEAK
Lovely day – what a bore,
Things to do – work galore,
Yes I’m well – you’re feeling sick,
An excellent fellow – what a pr***!
All is fine – nervous stress
It’s raining again – bless

Whoa! I hope that fella’s gorlfriend stays away from Nevada and Area 51!
And your Brit speak sounds ever so much like sarcasm — say it isn’t so!
anthonynorth said
Hi Quilly,
Oh, Area 51 is a strange enough place without her, what with all that aircraft development with funny blinking lights
I think you could be right about the poem.

Celeb memoirs – I haven’t read many. The two I recall reading were very enjoyable though – both BBC people, DJs from the morning shows. The late Ray Moore, and Terry Wogan. Ray’s bio made me cry – one of the only books to have done so, and Terry’s made me laugh – again one of the few. I think it depends on writing ability mainly, whether the writer is a genius in other ways doesn’t matter much if the book entertains.
Flash 55 ~~~ I LOL’d ;-D
Brit Speak – ah yes, I remember it well! The art of understatement. None do it better. Here in the US the opposite applies – the art of exaggeration.
anthonynorth said
Hi Twilight,
Thanks for that.
My Dearest has read a Terry Wogan book and enjoyed it. But then again, he isn’t the kind of celebrity to play the celebrity game. So he’s okay.
Oh yes, we’re masters of understatement, alright
Violet said
Most of the Celeb memoirs could be indulgence which I feel is okay sometimes. If I read any of these I would do it for some fluff rather than actually gaining anything from it.

I enjoyed the 55er, Tony. Actually, I almost chose a UFO theme myself today but then changed my mind. Fickle. D
gautami tripathy said
I too don’t go in for celeb memoirs!
Here is my BTT post!
anthonynorth said
Hi Violet,
True. So many of them write only for indulgence.
Hi Donnetta,
Thanks for that. Yes, writing about UFOs can be fun.
Hi Gautami,
Yes, they can often be a bore.

We ate a UFO once. It was lumpy. If that girl brought it down look out for her.

I think celebrities of substance should write memoirs and the lesser celebs should read them, like the rest of us. The trick is to have something to say.
anthonynorth said
Hi Dr John,
Many thanks. With her temper, she could well have done
Hi Sandy,
