POLLY TICKS

We now know that the Zombie was most likely a business venture. As
slavery ended it seems that some plantation foremen in Haiti used a
poison that aped death. Once buried, they’d dig up the victims and
give an antidote, which revived them but left them without a mind. In
this way, they could work them as they wished. As I look at much of
corporate life today, I get the feeling that the idea has been
perfected.

BRIT NEWS: Led Zep singer Robert
Plant rec’d CBE from Prince Charles. The
greatest rock voice ever looked strange in collar and tie.

HEALTH NEWS: Healthy weight isn’t healthy? Survey says those who
are slightly overweight tend to live longer. Commonsense strikes again.

BRIT NEWS: Afghanistan. Death toll of Brit troops rising.
New vehicles ‘unsafe’. Hey, Brown! Throwaway
culture doesn’t extend to our troops!!

PILE

Is this a poem or a pile?
Words and lines in orderly file,
A reflection of how we tend to be,
Piles of actions our destiny,
Piles of things we call our own,
Piles of errors for which we atone;
Is this a life or just a pile?
I’ll have to think on that a while

DREAM ON

Fiction: ‘Dream on,’ said the Seducer, ‘for dreams are sweet’. They
had never said those actual words, but he knew he had heard them
often. And of course, he’s not alone. Throughout the past the
Seducer has been there, offering dreams aplenty – dreams sweet
with aspiration – dreams for YOU, the Seducer always said, as you
dreamt the night away, and then … as he opened the credit card
bill, the awakening.

FICKLE ARGUMENT

I’m not fickle – yes you are,
I’m not a materialist – expensive car?
I’m not self-centred – get away from the mirror,
You’re just jealous – Laughter; tear;
Well you’re just fickle – your argument’s blown,
I’ll fiddle with these – leave my books alone!
Your ideas are stupid – you’ve gone too far,
Get an ambulance, please – okay! Fickle we are

Just worked an overnight 12-hour shift. I feel like a zombie. :D

  2. Dream on couldn’t be more accurate for most people with a credit card. The bill is always climbing… Hope all is well. Have a great day.

  3. Hi Brian,
Well done. I would feel worse than a zombie, I think.

    Hi Michelle,
Yes, very true – a nightmare, even.

  4. Yes, the idea has indeed been perfected.

Have a terrific day Anthony. :)

  5. Hi Sandee,
It certainly seems that way to me.

  6. Old Grizz said

the fickle zombie dreamed he had piles…he did but it wasn’t money
    nice writing

  7. Hi Old Grizz,
I can feel his pain :-)
    Thanks for that.

Zombies – Oooer! I hadn’t heard that story before, AN. It explains a lot though! ;-)

I never “got” Robert Plant. I wonder if Prince Charles did? I know he’s your hero AN, and it’s nice that his work is being offically recognised – at last!

  9. Hi Twilight,
Yes, they call the poison the Zombie Cucumber.
Not sure Prince Charles would appreciate Led Zep, though. Although, at the end of the China Olympics, the guitarist on the double decker bus during our takeover of the flag was Led Zep’s lead, Jimmy Page.

  10. Of course, you are not fickle!

    :D

the sky melts away from the earth

  11. Hi Gautami,
Well thank you for that :-)

It’s always a delight to come here and see what you’ve been up to. Love the prompt from Carry on Tuesday

  13. Dr. John said

Your opening on Zombies was just great.

  14. Hi Melissa,
    Thanks for that. Much appreciated.

    Hi Dr John,
Many thanks. And mindlessly, they do not see.

  15. Jeeves said

Fickle, fickle and he dreams on!!Nice post…

  16. Hi Jeeves,
Thanks for that. Certainly not a fickle comment :-)

  18. Hi Sammi,
Thanks for that. I’m pleased you liked it :-)

    very enjoyable and TRUE sandy

  20. Hi Sandy,
Many thanks. Yep, life certainly piles up.

  21. mine has certainly piled up! thanks, that was a great poem!

  22. I’m enjoying your poetry, Anthony. A poem or a pile? The thought comes to my mind about my own work–and my attempt to bring order to life.

  23. Skittles said

I’ll think about it, too. That and why I messed up on today’s theme. :P

  24. Rinkly Rimes said

Lucky for me I’m ‘pleasantly plump’; that makes me very healthy! I’m glad I read that!

And I liked your approach to ‘pile’. No-one seems to have ‘had piles’ yet!

  25. Sue said

At least once or twice a week my life becomes a big pile and needs sorting….and once its sorted the whole thing starts up again. Lovely poem :)

  26. Dee said

Anthony your “tongue in cheek” perspective always gives me a chuckle. I love how your train of thought subtly weaves through each piece. Still love Led Zep after all these years :)

  27. Hi Fickleinpink,
Thanks for that and you’re welcome :-)

    Hi Sandy,
Many thanks. Oh, finding that order is just … well … you know.

    Hi Skittles,
It’s so easily done. I’ve even been known to do the wrong week’s prompt ;-)

    Hi Rinkly Rimes,
Ah, you never know – they’re just not saying ;-)

    Hi Sue,
Many thanks. This is known as the recycle of life :-)

    Hi Dee,
Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated. Oh, yes, Led Zep. I remember my early days as lead in a rock band, banging away at Communication Breakdown. Paradise, it was.

The reason the zombies happened freaks me out even more than the actual zombies. How unutterably gruesome. I am completely intrigued!

  29. Hi Selma,
    It’s a fascinating subject. Here’s a link about it:

Hi Tony, Just caught up with your last three posts, Loaded as ever, and informative to the hilt! Didn’t know that about the Zombies!

  31. Hi Andy,
Thanks for that. Yes, the research on the Zombies was done some time ago, but is little known.

  32. Jessie said

i enjoyed all of these — they are quick witted — a joy to read! thank you for stopping by my blog, it’s always a pleasure to read your thoughts.
    :-)

  33. Hi Jessie,
Thanks for your kind words, and you’re welcome.

  34. Well, I always say I learn something from the blogs each time I sign on. Zombies is no exception. Thanks for the interesting info.

  35. bundleocontradictions said

Well, you certainly described the pile of my life right now. I can’t rhyme so well. lol

  36. Quilly said

Zombies — and when Zombies managed to give birth, they had living brain dead children who watched TV, went to work, did their jobs and never questioned anything.

Pile — somedays I think my life is a pile of ____

Dream On — the Seducer used to entice me in, but I have learned to leave my credit card at home and carry only enough money for what I need. No impulse shopping for me.

Fickle — With this I do not identify. I think that is good.

  37. b said

No z is for zombies. But I liked the dreams post. I had a thought that took me back to more romantic hidden meaning and yours is a modern version.

  38. Hi Photowannabe,
Thanks for that, and you’re welcome.

    Hi Bundleocontradictions,
Well, I guess things change. They always do, eventually.

    Hi Quilly,
I’m pleased to know you’re not fickle. The best way to be. As for credit, I don’t have, have never had, and will never have a credit card. As for the zombies, you raise an important point. Why don’t the young question nowadays? Madness.

    Hi B,
Thanks for that. I’m pleased I invoked memories like that.

  39. Karen said

Your pile poem is awesome as usual. I do feel quite zombieish (that doesn’t look right but oh well) from the wedding this past weekend!

  40. Hi Karen,
Many thanks. Yes, after the fun there’s always the cost :-)

  41. Anthony- I’ve been loving Robert Plant for decades, in his various incarnations w/ Led Zeppelin, Honeydrippers, solo, and most recently, with Alison Krauss.

The zombie story brought Romeo & Juliet to mind.

    Thanks.

  42. Hi Roger,
Oh, yes, the number one rock voice EVER!! And personally I think Page is number one rock guitar, too.

  43. Regina said

    Interesting blog.
    Regina

  44. Hi Regina,
    Thanks for that.

  45. Oh, man. Zombies. Some fuzz-for-brains US legislator wants to outlaw cross breeding things that might produce zombies..or…or. I wish we could figure how to do a mass brain implant on some of these nutzoids.

  46. Pile and Dream On – These are a hoot – it IS about the gathering of stuff(s). Love these both!

  47. Hi Tumblewords,
Thanks for the comments. I love that word, nutzoids :-)

  48. Jay said

Interesting … I had heard about the poison that the Haitians used to mimic death, but didn’t know that it was because of the end of slavery – or that it really did leave people mindless.

Loved the microfiction, as always! LOL!

  49. Hi Jay,
Thanks for that. Yes, it’s a fascinating subject.
