About
INTRODUCTION
Welcome to Beyond the Blog. I’m a fifty something Yorkshireman who discovered writing many years ago. You can find out all about me by clicking the ‘memoirs’ category.
Most of the posts contain a short essay followed by my ‘magazine post’ concept containing poetry and flash fiction. Off-beat in style, I hope I nonetheless retain a high level of rationality.
The pages alongside this one are each a home page to a number of sub-domains, dealing with my subjects of interest. You will find everything from politics to the unexplained here.
PATTERNOLOGY
At the centre of my work is a discipline I call P-ology, or Patternology. The world is full of specializations, but could vital knowledge be lost in the gaps between them? Patternology is a holistic train of thought that looks at the specializations in their entirety, searching for patterns that the specialist may have missed.
Patternology can be seen as a bedfellow to specialization, keeping an eye on the specialist as well as the world. It can never offer truth, but patterns for the specialist to consider, placing them in a holistic jig saw that constantly remodels the picture.

thanks for the comment. You raise a very good point regarding the lack of community in play. I can guess that toy makers may argue that the individual toys create a sense of independence, however, in this day and age we need community more than ever.
anthonynorth said
Hi Humminbird,
I feel the reason is a general slide in society towards individuality and loneliness as opposed to community. It’s beginning to infect everything. Worrying.
Thanks for visiting.

Rubbish time travel is indeed quite practicle and can be done it is like anything else it has to be dealt with like nay other aspects or inventions but to think it impossible is nonsense i am one of those who has always felt and belived it is just within our reach i myself want to go backward down the timeline since the past and the furture are linked to think that the apst is not still there is to fly in the face of reason the past is already still there and can be gone back into and well as the future which is already there as well. I think it is just a real matter of finding the way and i am not going to stop until i myself have done so. Thank You Jay!

Hi PM,
Well spotted. I actually opened my first blog a few months previously. Infact, I opened one for nearly every subject I cover.
Beyond the Blog was initially conceived as a ‘preview’ of my other blogs, with the odd post from each. Then it began to take off and I realised I could place the lot on it, with two supplementary blogs.
It wasn’t until I started the Diary of a Writer category, however, that I considered myself a proper blogger, actually joining the community
I should have done it long ago. It’s marvellous.

Hi Anthony,
As you may have noticed, I’ve recently discovered your blog and have left a few comments. I’m enjoying reading your points of view, keep up the good work and hopefully I’ll be able to contribute a little.
I started my own blog a few weeks back but I’m not really as constructive as your good self. I must tame the ego!!!
Thanks for the insights.

Hi Ian,
I’ve got a system. It may help
Every Sun and Wed I post my big Mysteries essays. Also, occasionally, I post one of my previously wirtten stories on North’s Review (look out for a Fiction Xtra link).
Everything else is purposely short (apart from my History of Man posts which are finished in a month, anyway). These are one or two super-short current affairs posts per day on Eye On the World, and short magazine posts here on Mon and Tue.
That’s about it, until we get to mad Thu/Fri, where I participate in the writers’ prompt game. This can mean up to five short posts within 24 hours.
Sat, I don’t post.
Hope that’s made it easy for you

Hi Anthony,
I came across your blog as I was registering and beginning the design and layout of my own new blog (still under construction and will be for a wee while yet I imagine ). I must say that you have some very interesting articles, enough to have kept me away from getting my own blog up and running . Still that’s why I enjoy blogs, you’re never sure what you’ll find and what it will bring to you.
Anyway, keep up the good work and I’ll be popping in again soon.
mkcinchina.

Hi Mkcinchina,
Thanks for that, and welcome. And I hope I can keep your interest in the future. Good luck with your own blog.

Hi Anthony,
I wasn’t to sure where else to post this so I popped it here, I hope that you don’t mind?
Your reply number five final, one word statement, “Worrying.”
Worrying is right!
Maybe you can add a second underlying meaning to P-ology (Peopleology).
I think that we are seeing a breakdown at almost every personal level in capitalistic society (not to mention the economic slide you mentioned in your Recession post),nationally, culturally, communally (read community) and even at family level as evidenced by the massive divorce rate, which also has long term ramifications for the children involved and their future relationships.
Its generally reasoned that people are, in the main, gregarious by nature (and in nature) so for us to slide away from each other is contrary to our underlying pysche (or pattern).
If people in pre-history hadn’t banded into communities, either agricultural or nomadic would we even still be here?
This is one of the things that I think your site is achieving, apart from asking questions and giving people cause to think outside the current, cultural square, it is also like a village bringing them together in a ’safe house’ where they can ask questions without fear of ridicule. Personal attacks so destroy conceptual and personal growth.
One more thing, personal defense is totally different to personal attack, it is imperative to defend the walls against the ‘Trojan Horse’, “Charge! or should that be ‘Whoa!’.
Hope you have an enjoyable International Happy Day.
Chris

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the kind words about this blog. As I see it, the problems of the world are nothing to do with capitalism, family, decline of family, government, or any other concept. Most stances have a degree of commonsense about them.
To me, the problem comes with the degree of fanaticism ANY system is taken. As soon as a consensus thinks something is right, they force it forward, stampeding all other systems, and once that happens, no matter how ‘right’ it was in the beginning, it becomes wrong.
And this is where today’s problems come into play. Globalisation is all about Big Biz and ‘profit’. This requires materialism, atheism and individualism, otherwise people have concepts above the consumer ethic. And this system leads to fragmentation and sameness, which are the exact opposite of community and diversity.
The latter pair are the secret of evolution, the former, devolution. It is the restoring of the balance that is important here. Finding a path to accommodate all. And even achieving that could be seen as a cultural stampede.
‘Balance’ – the most important and difficult word in any language, I think.

How’s this one…?
Instead of parts in conflict there are cooperative ends of the one rubberband?
If you could see the quantum waves of energy like I can, you would see very discernible and predictable the patterns truly are. But of course, like Columbus before me saying there were currents on the skies and in the waters…I’m just a ~crazy lady~

{{{your welcome!}}}}
I just read how much you like feedback, so here’s something you might enjoy.
We’re in a transition of ‘energetic patterns’ right now, changing from one to another. Our external realities are changing to accurately reflect our inner realties. We can observe it especially in the areas of business and politics. Stock markets have been flip-flopping all year. Scams and deceit are coming out. Banks are collapsing. This is all part of the change.
We have had an economy with no sense of economy in it, appearances of wealth not backed up by solid senses of worth and have ignored the fact that “security” is a psychological state of mind, therefore, can only be resolved using psychological means.
But rather then fear all the changes, there are those of us here that have just been waiting to be of service in any way we can. This is what our whole lives have been about preparing us for. But we only serve in ways that help everyone, worldwide.
anthonynorth said
Hi Sue Ann,
Thanks for that. There’s a lot of sense in what you say. It’s been obvious to me for years that we could not sustain this level of living, and that the whole thing was built on a house of cards.
The only point I’d make is that it is maybe not a fundamental period of humanity, as similar has happened before. We WILL pick ourselves up and carry on, be it differently. And similar periods of delusion will happen in the future.
They call it the human condition. We never learn.
Sue Ann Edwards said
Evolution of Humanity is a spiral, not a circle. Up until about 500 years ago, Humanity as a Whole, could not understand abstract thought. Now, it is commonplace among most developed countries.
Consciousness evolves and is in the middle of making a quantum shift. More of us are being born like “me” and eventually, through attrition if nothing else, will replace the current model.
anthonynorth said
Hi Sue Ann,
Whilst I accept that consciousness can change, mainly due to technology, abstract thought was evident in burials from prehistory, and to deny early philosophers such as Plato used abstract thought is ludicrous.
I cannot agree with you here at all. You seem to be saying that most people, including me, are lesser humans than yourself.
Terrible.
