BEYOND THE BLOG

computer_desk.jpgINTRODUCTION

Welcome to Beyond the Blog. This is one of three sites in my alternative network. I am a fifty something Yorkshireman who discovered writing many years ago. The pages list my archive of essays. Give them a try. For my links, click Eye On the World. You may want to check out Eye On the World and North’s Review.
I post entries on current affairs almost daily on both sites. In addition I place at least two short stories a week on the Review, which also has writers’ resources. You can use the search facility on the sites. If you come across a My Sites post, ignore it. This function is not used at present.

PATTERNOLOGY

At the centre of my work is a discipline I call P-ology, or Patternology. The world is full of specializations, but could vital knowledge be lost in the gaps between them? Patternology is a holistic train of thought that looks at the specializations in their entirety, searching for patterns that the specialist may have missed.
Patternology can be seen as a bedfellow to specialization, keeping an eye on the specialist as well as the world. It can never offer truth, but patterns for the specialist to consider, placing them in a holistic jig saw that constantly remodels the picture.

thanks for the comment. You raise a very good point regarding the lack of community in play. I can guess that toy makers may argue that the individual toys create a sense of independence, however, in this day and age we need community more than ever.

  5. anthonynorth Says:

    Hi Humminbird,
I feel the reason is a general slide in society towards individuality and loneliness as opposed to community. It’s beginning to infect everything. Worrying.
    Thanks for visiting.

Rubbish time travel is indeed quite practicle and can be done it is like anything else it has to be dealt with like nay other aspects or inventions but to think it impossible is nonsense i am one of those who has always felt and belived it is just within our reach i myself want to go backward down the timeline since the past and the furture are linked to think that the apst is not still there is to fly in the face of reason the past is already still there and can be gone back into and well as the future which is already there as well. I think it is just a real matter of finding the way and i am not going to stop until i myself have done so. Thank You Jay!

    Hi PM,
Well spotted. I actually opened my first blog a few months previously. Infact, I opened one for nearly every subject I cover.
Beyond the Blog was initially conceived as a ‘preview’ of my other blogs, with the odd post from each. Then it began to take off and I realised I could place the lot on it, with two supplementary blogs.
It wasn’t until I started the Diary of a Writer category, however, that I considered myself a proper blogger, actually joining the community
I should have done it long ago. It’s marvellous.

    Hi Anthony,

As you may have noticed, I’ve recently discovered your blog and have left a few comments. I’m enjoying reading your points of view, keep up the good work and hopefully I’ll be able to contribute a little.

I started my own blog a few weeks back but I’m not really as constructive as your good self. I must tame the ego!!!

    Thanks for the insights.

  22. anthonynorth Says:

    Hi Derwowski,
Thanks for the comment. I hope I can keep you entertained and thinking.

  23. iangarvie Says:

Damn me man….how am I ever going to keep up with you, I’ve been reading all week, and still haven’t finished :-). So many topics so much to think about, and so many points of convergence. Somebody ought to slow you down….just kidding

  24. anthonynorth Says:

    Hi Ian,
I’ve got a system. It may help :-)
Every Sun and Wed I post my big Mysteries essays. Also, occasionally, I post one of my previously wirtten stories on North’s Review (look out for a Fiction Xtra link).
Everything else is purposely short (apart from my History of Man posts which are finished in a month, anyway). These are one or two super-short current affairs posts per day on Eye On the World, and short magazine posts here on Mon and Tue.
That’s about it, until we get to mad Thu/Fri, where I participate in the writers’ prompt game. This can mean up to five short posts within 24 hours.
    Sat, I don’t post.
Hope that’s made it easy for you :-)

  27. trylobyte Says:

Wow! I can’t believe that I didn’t find this blog earlier!

I’ve just spent the last hour reading various essays from your blog. Each one gets better than the other :-)

If you don’t mind, can I link you?

  28. anthonynorth Says:

    Hi Trylobyte,
Welcome. And I’m pleased you like the blog. As for linking, of course you can. Nice of you to ask.

  29. rmjager Says:

Fascinating site and fascinating concepts. You can call this Western Yoga. Will be reading it often.

  30. anthonynorth Says:

    Hi Rmjager,
Thanks for that, and welcome. ‘Western Yoga’? I like that.
