My Think Tank
INTRODUCTION
Following a post, here, and some comments following, I’ve decided to create my own Think Tank, which I will call the Patternological Society. It is so named because I don’t think specialists provide all the answers.
There is a need for a more ‘holistic’ branch of thought that looks for ‘patterns’ in knowledge that specialists miss. Formed as a bedfellow to the specialist, it is designed to think things and throw ideas at specialists to disprove or not.
Patternology – and therefore, this Think Tank – can never offer truths. It merely deals in ideas. I’ve recruited six good friends of mine to the Think Tank, who are introduced below. I think you’ll like them ![]()
My friends are specialists in their chosen field, and one of them will appear in future on most posts as an addition. Hopefully they will blow your mind away with their genius – or, if not, their humour
Anthony North, Director
POLLY TICKS - Polly is a politician and journalist who likes to remain anonymous, so there is no picture. She is so close to UK politics that she lives high up in the building depicted. At least, that’s her excuse. She’s just a lazy madam and needs a loud alarm clock.
DR ILLYA NESS - The good doctor is qualified in just about everything medical and so conceited about his qualifications that he doesn’t bother with patients anymore. At least, that’s what he said after the inquiry. He has a particular hatred for the Pharticeutical Industry.
TECHIE WITHOUT A CLUE - Techie is a young savant who, no matter how hard he tries, cannot get the hang of this modern tech world. He’d like to be a computer genius, but isn’t. But seeing himself as also a philosopher of note, he does enjoy bouncing ideas back and forth.
GURU TONY - I can assure you that Guru Tony is no relation to me. An expert in religion, he speaks in charismatic tones about all things spiritual. Be careful for he can easily hook you. He’s done so in the past, but whenever his followers get to a dozen, they disappear.
PAPPA RAZZI - Pappa knows everything there is to know about modern entertainment and celebrity culture. He analyses this phenomenon, and tries to show how it really impacts upon our life. I would show you his picture but he doesn’t like his photo taken. You’ve got a TV instead.
PROF ISAAC GALISTEIN - The ‘prof’ is my resident expert on science – when he remembers, that is. He has degrees in over a dozen subjects, including particle physics, cosmology, applied mathematics and golf management. They say when he hits the ball, its probability of direction is quantum.

WEIRD OBSERVATIONS ORGANISATION – The W.O.O. are a bunch of enlightened spirits who try to work out answers to the unexplained. Without a great deal of funding, their HQ suffers some infestations, as the picture shows. Will they convince all of their ideas? Not a ghost of a chance.

DI CASS NOVA – Cass started life as a fictional detective but got fed up with living to a writer’s tune. He is now a budding criminologist, hoping to understand the criminal mind. His motives for doing so MAY be suspect.

BLOGGER BARD – Here we have the height of pretension – a would-be poet who’s never had a single writing lesson, or taken any advice from any writer. And he has the nerve to offer advice to others!!!

Hi Mark,
I’ve been playing about with Patternology for years. The tongue-in-cheek method I’m using here will hopefully increase its popularity.

I too shall look forward to future posts here. I foresee you giving Polly a good slap around the legs and wrists – give her one for me too, AN!

Hi Twilight,
Polly can be a madam at times. With her feminine ways, sometimes I just don’t understand her

Hi Anthony,
Tank you so much! Now I know why my golf balls keep ‘disappearing’!
I like this idea.

Hi Chris,
Many thanks. I introduced this bunch of columnists a while ago but stopped them. I think it’s time for their return, starting tomorrow.

Hi Amias,
Thanks for that – a bit of fun to go with the seriousness, though.
