PAPPA RAZZI

We’re not supposed to think nowadays. Media is always putting it
down, and academe doesn’t seem to do much either. The reason is
fear. You see, people think philosophy ended up creating communism
and fascism, and the conflicts and atrocities that followed. But I don’t
think philosophy caused the trouble, but the lack of a sense of
moderation following on from the philosophy. Similarly, it went bad
when holism was placed upon society – a tricky thing without
moderation. We should remember this, and think!

RATTLER’S TALE

A Voyage of the Imagination

Twist In the Tale Archive

ANTICIPATE

I look ahead, anticipate,
Longing never dissipates,
Soon it comes, it always will,
Lots to do, must fulfill …
What is it? I hear you ask,
What could be this glorious task?
That which gives us joy and strife;
Just life

BIG CHANCE

Fiction: It’s a grand night for singing. The words of the old song
filtered into her mind as she stood there, the activity of the fair all
around her. And it was certainly her big chance. She looked up to the
stars before the action and they seemed so wonderful, as if they held
her destiny. Then the time came. He was there in front of her. She
pouted, knowing no one could resist her. He moved closer, his arms
encompassing her, his mouth beckoning hers, about to take her to –
to what? To the most important moment of her life, where her dreams
would come true, where nothing mattered but this moment; this
wonderful, fulfilling, magnificent moment. Then … ‘Cut!’ said the
Director. ‘We’ll let you know.’

WINDOWS

Look through the window, an amazing view,
Life in its majesty, events anew,
Reactions, assignations, trysts galore,
Fate notches up an inevitable score

Previously you were out, reacting with them,
They’re touched by your love, or maybe your phlegm,
A little piece of you is in their minds,
They dance to your tune, your thoughts of all kinds

See how your intention directs their ways,
Your sainthood, your devils into them strays,
And see how they hate you, or love you so much,
By their glance in your window; emotional as such

For we are all gods, having sway over life,
Our social mores creating happiness or strife,
Your face, as you look, above them flies,
And reflects your mischief back into your eyes

WHY ARE WE HERE – ONE

Posted by anthonynorth on July 30, 2009

Find Unconscious Mutterings and
Booking Through Thursday below.

Earth over Moon

We are well aware of the idea that life constantly
evolves. But how far does this process of evolution
go? Does it stop at life, or could it be argued that
evolution is a property of the cosmos?

For instance, if the universe began from a Big Bang, and has constantly changed from this point, does this show the property of evolution? And could a similar argument be laid down for known, and constant, change upon planet Earth?
The fundamental problem with the idea that planet Earth evolves concerns the place of life within the evolutionary process. Does life evolve separate to the planet, or is life – including mankind – part of the process of Earth’s evolutionary mechanism?
To accept the latter holds severe problems for science. It not only removes us from the top of the evolutionary tree, but would suggest a form of co-ordinated intelligence invested in planet Earth which is guiding us along.
There are, infact, many indicators that this is, indeed, the case. One of the absolutes of evolution is the idea that evolution only evolves what is required for survival. There is no surplus.
However, the massive explosion in the size of the human brain goes way ahead of our ability to use it. Our brain capacity is far greater than is required by this evolutionary law. Yet if seen as part of an evolving requirement of planet Earth, our brain size could fall into the evolutionary pattern.
French philosopher Henri Bergson would have had no problem with this idea. He believed that nature had an urge to create – a principle he called the ‘elan vital’. Such an urge would be above an individual species, placing all of nature within an evolutionary concept which could easily be seen as part of the evolution of planet Earth.
British physicist Peter Russell could have placed our big brain within this format. He theorised upon a growing planetary level of consciousness called the ‘Gaiafield’ – a self-reflective consciousness of all minds, forming a social superorganism.
In a way this is similar to psychoanalyst Carl Jung’s idea of a collective unconscious lying under the personal mind. But instead of being a species supermind, Russell would invest the property on a planetary level.

BLOGGER BARD

Funny Book

I don’t read many funny books. I read plenty of twisty
tales, which can be funny, but not actual humour. Then
again, isn’t it all relative? For instance, I read many works
that would be classed as pseudoscholastic – on lost
civilizations, paranormal, etc. Many ‘experts’ class their
conclusions as very funny indeed. I suppose ‘humour’
depends on the reader. For instance, I would class many
politician’s biographies as hilarious. Humour seems to be
in the mind of the reader as well as the writer.

Poor Devil

I often think the Devil gets a bad press. Known as a trickster,
his job is to make things bad for you. Without him, everything
would be sweetness and light. But a question: what makes us
advance as people? Overcoming the problems in life – problems
that used to be laid at the Devil’s door. So maybe we’d not
advance without him.

Him Outside got to watch another of his Alfred Hitchcock collection
over the weekend. This time, Shadow of a Doubt – a great
psychological thriller from the early 1940s. It tapped many of the
classic storytelling devices, revolving around a serial killer hiding out
with his sister’s family. Known as Uncle Charlie, it immediately gives
him a sense of the innocuous, and as his niece slowly realises what
he is, the tension is excellent. A classic invasion of evil into normality,
there’s a great alchemy as opposing polarities clash. Old Alfred
certainly knew how to make them.

Information

We live in an information age, where intelligence is measured in
terms of how much information you can handle. This is all very
well, but is this true knowledge? I don’t think so. Knowledge is

DROPPED
(or beware of an intolerant future)

They dropped him from the faculty,
Wouldn’t listen to his plea,
No matter how illogical the act,
He was out – that’s a fact;
‘Twas his fault, having an original thought,
Should have kept quiet – he knew he ought,
The future’s intolerant, he knew that,
So they dropped him – from the roof -
Splat!

THE WORRIOR

Sci Fi: War seemed inevitable. And now that the ultimate weapon was
available, fear gripped them. They worried how they could possibly
defend themselves. No, there was no defence! They knew that. And
as the enemy mobilised, ready to strike, the decision was simple.
Surrender. Afterwards, the victors thanked their new weapon – the
worrior. What a spinmaster he was. He had created the ultimate
illusion and fired fear at the enemy.

MEMORIAL

Look out the window, my spaceman friend,
The memorial is there, don’t let it offend;
Here we are, safe and very secure,
Just as before, we were sure,
Mis-using our brains and technology,
No point, now, in apology;
But it’s there forever, telling of our dearth,
Stuck here in space, above a dead Earth

Him Outside often thinks back to when he nearly made it big as a

well in the enthusiasts’ mags. Then a break – a nod, and news of an

followed, a third in negotiation, and dozens of articles appearing in
newsstand mags! Then the publisher was bought out in the latest
round of big takeovers. List cancelled. Him Outside managed to move
quickly to another publisher, but before the book appeared, the
money men pulled out and publishing just stopped doing his type of
book. And that was it – about 500 rejections before the break, and
another 500 from then to the present day. Him Outside – the biggie

To Observe

Quantum theory suggests that to observe something we directly
affect it. I think this is true of all life. By the act of observation we
become part of what is being observed, suggesting that we cannot
observe anything without causing a change in what we are observing.
Hence, it could be said that, rather than identifying the universe, all
observation validates what we want to believe.

THE CRIME POST

It would be criminal not to read it

True Crime Crime Fiction

THE FARM

Tasty girl, took her out,
Twice a week, always my shout,
Lovely meals, food piled high,
Gets more attractive, can’t deny;
She’ll soon be right, taste buds tell,
I want her now! Dining bell,
Yet always such a sad, sad song,
But I’ll find another when she’s gone

THE OTHER DEATH

Fiction: He killed her. There’s no doubt about it. He did it. He took the
life from her. I’m not saying he planned it – he didn’t. Not her. But he
killed her when he killed her man. And she died of a broken heart.

O is for … OUTBURST

He won’t get up; he just lies there,
And his eyes have such a strange stare,
But it wasn’t my fault,
This assault;
I know my outbursts can be bad,
But you don’t know the terrible life I’ve had;
It wasn’t my fault,
This assault;
My only defence was self esteem,
With such a life, I have to gleam!
So it wasn’t my fault,
This assault;
And I know I’ll spend my life in jail,
The indignity makes me go quite pale;
And you think it’s my fault,
This assault

GETTING WARMER

Getting warmer, following the clues,
So many paths, time to choose,
The way to catch the villain quick,
Before more crimes that make us sick;
Forensics, informers, so many ways,
The detective marches through the haze,
But the best way to catch society’s foes,
Is always to follow the copper’s nose

What’s Reason?

Reason is a funny thing. If a person believes in God, then all
around him he reasons proof of it. Scientists would discount such
‘reason’ – they have their own. But throughout history ‘reason’ has
been proved against a particular culture at a particular time. Maybe
‘reason’ is relative. We should never class it as an absolute.

WORLD NEWS: US captain rescued from Somali
pirates. About time, too. What is happening in these
waters? All that tech; all that expertise. And ’til now been
laughed at by a crowd of thugs.

BRIT NEWS: Church leaders have warned not to gain comfort
in material possessions during the Recession. Right message,
wrong time. They should have been screaming it out
loud for years, but no. Wait ’til people can’t
afford them anyway.

TASTE THE FEAR

Little ghostie, why are you here?
Don’t you know you’ve nothing to fear;
If in our minds it isn’t your fault,
It’s our fears we must assault;
And if you are an entity,
Heaven awaits for you and me

BEYOND DOUBT

Fiction: The believer looked at the ghost and said: ‘Don’t you
see it?’ The sceptic said: ‘Be reasonable. There’s nothing there.’
Of course, to the believer the existence of the ghost was
beyond doubt – which left only one answer to why the sceptic
couldn’t see it. ‘You,’ said the believer, ‘are paranormal.’
