WE’RE EQUALS

I’m equal to you, the robot said,
Man thought it had gone to its positronic head;
Don’t be ridiculous you man of tin,
You don’t feel love, compassion or sin;
But they are viruses, the robot did say,
And I’m more powerful – I could easily slay;
So man decided it was time to scoff:
But see, he said, I can turn you o ….
Oh!

THOUGHT CATCHERS

Life is ours because we think,
Sometimes callous, we never shrink,
The writer sees this world of ours,
Catches thoughts, ideas he devours,
Persistently turned to literary delights,
Reflects them back, turns on the light,
Of social change that drives us on,
To interfere, define; he must never be gone

IT’S LOST

It’s gone, it has, it’s really lost,
Who can say what is the cost,
From this moment on, all is changed,
Everything is suddenly deranged;
Must work it out, let’s use some stealth,
Have I lost the world, or just myself?

THOUGHTS OF SPRING

The world turns; nature’s detox
Spring, that marvellous Equinox,
Life pops out, says hello,
Under a glorious rainbow;
It’s coming soon – we shout! Rejoice!
Goodbye Winter,
One joyful voice

AN AGE

Slowly she ages, delicately,
Through the years as one with me,
Wrinkled, greying, getting old,
Unable to experience life unfold,
Captured in youth, her photo dies,
My only memory; her killer despised

THE SEER

She sits so still, lets them in,
Soon the spirits begin to sing,
Seeing so much of what life’s about,
Offering messages without doubt,
But where they reside, I’m not so sure,
Inner mind, not Heaven pure?

SPICY WORLD

They decided to call it Planet Spice,
The flora provided tastes so nice,
Until they did their natural history,
A sorry tale – Oh, what irony;
If you want to explore outer space,
Try not to eat the primary race

PARADISE PULSE

Future people will search it out,
Changing society to add some clout,
To the idea that paradise can be,
Our ultimate, yearned for, destiny;
Throughout time we’ve dreamt it’s there,
Forgetting Utopia means nowhere

SCARY DAY

Consciousness – a wonderful thing,
All is changed now – I can sing;
No longer stuck upon the shelf,
Now I know I know myself;
But it’s scary, this bright new day,
In the life of M2L4J

LETTERS

Letters are useful, that’s the truth,
Help you spell words like ‘me’ & ’streuth’;
I’ve pondered the letters in ‘rake’ & ‘trowel’,
Consonantly worried, of that I vowel;
I’d like to tell of these thoughts sublime,
But sadly I haven’t another line

MY LIFE

Photos and books all over the place,
They surround me, no disgrace,
The latter helping me how to be,
The former the result of this destiny;
Sometimes I think the photo exists,
Within the pages, my life betwixt

DIMINISHED

It’s been an age since she was gone,
Is she where she belongs?
I’m coming to terms with my loss,
Regardless of the terrible cost;
I try to be here as much as can be,
Yet not always possible, as you’ll see;
I remember her going so very pale,
As I went to heaven, and she to jail

THE CON

It WAS a ploy; it had to be,
Flirting, her only destiny,
So stunning, how could anyone say no?
And when she came on, your money would go;
She got her way all the time,
‘Til I came along, naivety her crime

SHOCK LIST

I got a shock, that’s for sure,
I’m telling you, I did endure;
First of all the vampire bit,
I ran from the mummy – boy, was it fit?
Finally the werewolf roared a lot,
You’ve no idea how many films I’ve got

LULL

Hush!!! Can you feel the breath?
Never been this close to death;
It approaches, oh! so silently,
This vile, repulsive entity;
Horrors fill my world and mind,
As it creeps up from behind,
The lull is over – so unkind

TRIP

Everything ready, time to go,
Start the trip, all’s a glow,
Seeing things you’ve never seen,
Everything is so serene,
Until you’re back, feeling sick,
A stupid way to get a kick

GREEN CRIME

Mr Bigbiz is on the stand,
Facing the law for what’s in his hand,
Making us indulge in this hamburger crap!
I wonder if he’ll take the wrap;
Such deceit about the ingredients within,
And the cost to the environment a major sin;
Now he’s on oath, will the truth come out?
There can’t be room for reasonable doubt

ONCE UPON A TIME

Once a fairy came my way,
Upon my word, she was so fey,
A princess, beautiful as can be,
Time stood still – we kissed by a tree,
Far away we began to stray
Far from reality – what can I say?
Away we went, forever and a day

FALLING SLOWLY

Falling slowly, forever down,
Thoughts are racing, most profound,
I see my dead mother, say hello,
All about her is aglow,
My children look sad, how it should be,
Their faces receding; Oh destiny,
Falling slowly, nearly there,
Then surrounded by light; don’t despair

PLANT

Plant a seed, it begins to grow,
Won’t he shut up? Doesn’t he know?
I try to hold my temper, true,
But on and on … Phew!
That’s enough! The seed, it grows,
I’m sorry!
I planted my fist right on his nose

THE LANGUID SPACEMAN

Languid spaceman, isn’t it time,
You went to planets, hoping to find,
ET and other magnificent stuff,
Even though it may be tough?
The tech’s been on the drawing board so long,
The aliens are wondering where we’ve gone,
Just orbiting the planet without any cred,
As if flies buzzing round something dead

NOVEL

A product of enlightened times,
The novel took writing away from rhymes,
Fictional tales of the human condition,
Characters in love, or feeling contrition;
A pact is done between writer and reader,
An emotional see-saw through joy or fear,
A means through which the mind is honed,
The writer’s thoughts in the reader cloned

THE GREEN WRITER

I’m the greenest writer there can ever be,
Every page from a sustainable tree,
I cover global warming and pollution, too,
All eco-issues to educate you,
Offering a world to which you’re entitled,
But you could have read it before you recycled

LANGUAGE MODE

I think the words, write them down,
Causing the reader to laugh or frown,
Storytelling is my game,
Using abstract thought with which to claim,
A language honed to pass on ideas,
Archetypal expressions of our hopes and fears

THE SERIAL PHOTOGRAPHER

I snapped it quick, showed her surprise,
And then to the task I had to rise,
Now it’s framed forever and a day,
Reminding me of where she lay,
A trophy upon which my ego is fed,
In her death, we are wed

MOTHER EARTH

All around, above, below,
From the soil to sky aglow,
Mother Earth takes care of all,
But so often we’re not enthralled;
We forgot when we thought we could lord,
That to her we have an umbilical cord;
We break this link at our peril,
When we become the eco-Devil

FULL UP

I’m full!! Now go, just get away,
Be off with you, without delay,
What do you mean you must come in?
To not do so is a sin;
I’m sorry, but so many have died,
Because this egg is fertilised

BAMBOOZLED

Do they get it, this eco-thing?
Do politicians want to sing?
Do they know the danger here?
Or do they offer crocodile tear?
I’m bamboozled by what I’ve seen,
Feeling eco?
Or sickly green

FORK IN THE ROAD

Left after right, walking on,
Not looking around; not singing a song,
Come to a fork – do I turn this way or that?
Such decisions – getting to the fact;
If only I’d been told what to do,
For me the options are so very few;
Robots do only what their programs pledge,
And that’s why I walked straight into the hedge

TO EXERCISE

Fight those demons, pump it up,
Effort, sweat, with adrenalin we sup,
Racing heart, keep going true,
Don’t give up! You want to;
‘Tis the only way to vanquish the dead,
Exercise?
Oh, sorry
Thought it was exorcise you said

THE FARM

Tasty girl, took her out,
Twice a week, always my shout,
Lovely meals, food piled high,
Gets more attractive, can’t deny;
She’ll soon be right, taste buds tell,
I want her now! Dining bell,
Yet always such a sad, sad song,
But I’ll find another when she’s gone

GETTING WARMER

Getting warmer, following the clues,
So many paths, time to choose,
The way to catch the villain quick,
Before more crimes that make us sick;
Forensics, informers, so many ways,
The detective marches through the haze,
But the best way to catch society’s foes,
Is always to follow the copper’s nose

THE WORD

Inspiration, for a world,
The thought behind a nation,
The Word, the single most important thing,
To it, total sublimation;
Fighting, living, conquering, existing,
No other thought but this,
Driving us on to Herculian tasks,
Though we’ve forgotten what it is

FOLLOW

A new religion, will you stray?
The most powerful around today;
Spreading all around the place,
Everyone becoming interlaced;
You’re at the alter, sing the song!
Ready!!?
Let us Log On

FOLLOW

Does he inspire you to follow him?
Would you leave Bob and Jim,
To come under his charismatic ways,
Unable to get out of the phase?
Well,
Just remember the ultimate truth;
Follow’s an anagram of: Lo! Wolf

BIG IS BAD

Small is beautiful, the mantra of green,
Forget the big, all you’ve seen,
Of corporate worlds and their buzz,
Leaving us with eco-fuzz,
Obliterating planet and our soul,
Big is Bad!!!
Please be told

THE PARTY

Book launch party, see me there?
In demand, people stare,
Offering thanks for what I’ve done,
Everyone having so much fun;
I’m the guy who makes them think;
‘Barman! What shall I have to drink?’

POE’S GREATEST FEAR

I awake to darkness, clinging, still,
Paralysed – this horror brings no thrill,
They must have thought I was gone,
I’m in a coffin, narrow, long,
Under the ground, all alone,
No signal for my phone

PAST ME, FUTURE ME

Is that me so far away,
Getting closer every day?
Past and future merging so,
Memories advising how to go,
Forward into my future, whole;
Reborn in another soul

THE WALK

Feeling down, don’t want to talk,
Must get away – go for a walk;
To feel the sun shine on my mood,
I fight it – true – but I’m imbued,
With delights of such a glorious day,
My mind is eased – hip, hip, hooray!

THE RECLUSE

Is there a recluse within your head,
The guy who’s ideas you are fed,
Cajoling always to better your way,
Stopping you from going astray?
Don’t get annoyed because he’s there,
Temper, temper! Be aware

THOUGHT FOOD

Exotic food, I love it so,
Nutrients work to make me grow,
Improve my mind, what I think,
Its words, its meanings, on the brink,
Of an intellectual diet to make me wise,
Mind food, the ultimate prize

THE POINT

It’s why I do it; what it’s all about,
Making a point, leaving no doubt,
About my views upon the world,
Ideas, stories, constantly unfurled;
Writing is my point in life,
Following, of course, the kids and wife

INDEX

Index your life like a book,
Stop the snags – getting stuck,
Making life really flow,
Experience, a constant glow;
Then write it down, all is glee,
Indexed in your memory

JOY

Such joy! We are not alone,
speaking, always, on the phone,
And one to one, at home or far,
Or mingle with many, door ajar;
But joy can come in other ways,
Descending, mystically, through the haze,
To the hidden bond that binds us all,
Through deeper secrets, enthralled

THINKING THROUGH

I think on life in earnest ways,
Make decisions, combat haze,
Then a voice intrudes with glee,
A deeper layer, but is it me?
So many factors to our mind,
Reactive always, unconscious grind

A WET POEM

Dip in the fountain of eternal youth,
Reverse ageing, that’s the truth,
Feel the wetness washing you,
Of all bad thoughts – ain’t that true?
Then you wake from a lovely treat,
Remember your age and change the sheet

THE BIRD

I see him not, I close my eyes,
Then into sight he surely flies,
Guides my mind to vistas new,
Nature’s truths are now in view,
My animal guide then lowers a claw,
To mystic lands, together we soar

JUST ONE WORD

The future holds our destiny,
Tech for good or enmity,
Driving one word to ultimate power,
Providing a button that can devour,
Everything as the missiles hit,
Our leader safe in his pit;
Godly, he takes out man and bird,
For: In the End Was the Word

DANGEROUS ALLURE

Seductive mouth, sensual allure,
She approaches me, can’t say adieu,
Entwined in erotic ecstasy,
A vivid tryst between I and she;
And after, what is this place I search?
The last thing I see, a bat on a perch
