Don’t laugh. It’s a serious question. We have this idea that Tyrannosaurus Rex was a vicious predator. It may be true, but what was its real nature? Maybe evolution can offer a clue.
Four years ago a T-Rex thighbone was discovered in Montana. It has just been announced that collagen from the fossil has been analysed, and is related to – the chicken.
Evolution has a heart. In the past T-Rex ate everything in sight. Now we’re getting our own back.

THE FAT GENE

Scientists at Oxford and Exeter have ‘discovered’ the fat gene. One in 6 Britons has it. If two parents have it, there is a 70% chance of an offspring having it too. But there’s one thing we need to note. Eating is behaviour. Would a fat gene be a ‘behavioural’ gene?

IDENTITY FRAUD UP

Identity fraud was up nearly 70% in the UK in the second half of 2006 on the same period last year. The rise is put down to an increase in global identity fraud rings. Mail interception seems to be the favoured means.

WAITING BRITAIN

Good news from insurers Churchill. Britons are just as orderly as usual, causing total disorderliness elsewhere. 13.5 million work days were lost last year as people took time off to wait for deliveries, repair men … or Judgement Day (I joke).

POPE AND EVILUTION

Pope Benedict XVI has made his views on evolution known, and it seems to me he’s trying to be diplomatic. I’m not sure a pope should be diplomatic – shouldn’t he uphold the fundamental teaching of his faith?
