UNDERSTANDING THE FLOOD

Posted by anthonynorth on January 23, 2008

noahs-ark.jpg Myths from around the world tell us of a distinct event in pre-history. In the Bible, the event involves Noah, to whom God said he was to build an ark and take aboard it his family and breeding pairs of all animals.
Seven days after completion, the rains came and water rose from the ground. For forty days and nights this continued until the world was submerged. Three months later Noah found land and planted the first vine. We are talking, of course, of the Biblical Flood.

FLOOD AND AGRICULTURE

The Flood is not confined to the Blble. In Babylonian legends we find the words: ‘aboard the ship take thou the seed of all living things’. In ancient Greek legend Deucalion and his wife built and stocked a huge wooden chest and survived a deluge. After the flood he threw over his shoulder some stones and they became people.
Deucalion, like Noah, is associated with the vine. Dionysus is the god of wine and vegetation, and in another Greek myth he is depicted sailing in a boat with grapes hanging from the rigging. In ancient Egypt, one variation of the Osiris myth – another god eventually associated with agriculture – has him murdered and set afloat in a wooden chest. Does this connection with agriculture give a hint to what is going on?

EVIDENCE OF THE DELUGE

The above myths are suggestive of a huge flood in prehistory. However, many scholars have rejected a global flood in favour of a localised event. For instance, all the above cultures came from the same geographical area, or had early contact with this area.
This is the ‘fertile crescent’ of the eastern Mediterranean – modern day Iraq – between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, which were infamous for flooding.
In 1928 archaeologist Sir Leonard Woolley found evidence of such local flooding in soil samples at Ur. However, whilst the above can be traced to a possible common source, and as such, could be remembrances of a localised flood, the same cannot be said for the following.

WORLDWIDE MYTHS

Flood myths have been reported throughout the world. In Australia, the semi-human python Yurlunggur brought about a flood, the eventual result being today’s world.
In south east Asia we have myths concerning divine ancestors, the Thens. In a rage they caused a flood which devastated the world. Three great men took a raft and built a house upon it and took women and children to the upper kingdom. Eventually the flood receded and they returned to a world with animals and vegetation.
Many flood myths abound in ancient Chinese mythology. Typical ls that of the Yao people of southern China, who have the story of a man who castigates the Thunder God for creating a deluge.
In India the first man, Manu, earns favours from a small fish which he had saved from being eaten by a bigger one. The fish grows to a huge size and warns Manu of a coming cosmic deluge.
He instructs him to build a ship and fill it with the seeds of all things, and when the deluge comes, the fish tows Manu to safety. India also gives us Yamaha, the bear, who appears when the Earth is plunged into the ocean. He raises up the earth to save it.
In Andean mythology Viracocha, the creator god, sends a great flood. The world that survives is a better place and his son Manco Capac and daughter Mama Ocllo go on to teach the arts of civilisation to the survivors.
Similar myths exist throughout the Americas, right up to Canada, where the Chippewa Indians have a story of a mouse nibbling the leather bag that contains the sun. Released, the sun melts the snows and the meltwater goes on to flood the world.

BOTH GLOBAL AND LOCAL

Mythologies concerning a great flood exist throughout the world, suggesting that such an event really happened. Again, some scholars discount this by claiming that they are all remembrances of various localised events. However, perhaps they are both right and wrong.
For instance, one theme that constantly crops up in flood myths is the idea that following the flood came vegetation or civilisation. The way that this constant theme appears with flooding suggests some global event of a shared nature to be behind the various myths.
Intriguingly, a known event was taking place between 12000 and 8000BC that can answer such myths, and many of the other enigmas concerning a possible lost civilisation.
During this period, the last ice age came to an end.
Rather than being a spectacularly cataclysmic event, the retreat of the glaciers would have been a process taking many centuries, if not millenia. The result of the melting ice sheets would be that global sea levels would eventually rise possibly one hundred metres.
Whilst this event would be slow – hardly noticed in some areas – it would have occasional localised repercussions of devastating proportions. As water tables rose globally, valleys would be flooded, waters seeming to come up from the ground.
At times, rivers would suffer massive and devastating floods. Low lying islands would suddenly disappear below the sea, possibly leaving small outcrops such as at Easter Island.
Perhaps the most spectacular repercussion presently aired by some theorists is the idea of the Black Sea at one time being dry land. As the Mediterranean rose, a huge deluge would have submerged the area with waters bursting through the Bosphorus.

OF CATACLYSM AND RENEWAL

A slow ending of the last ice age would not cause a global cataclysm capable of wiping out the existing hunter/gatherers, but it would involve regional disasters capable of creating the myths.
And significantly, it was following the last ice age that peoples throughout the world began to leave behind their hunter/gatherer ways and turn to agriculture, and, eventually, civilisation.
So maybe the flood stories that come to us from antiquity are not ‘myths’ at all, but remembrances of real events.
In other words, coloured with the language of mythology as they are, we could be talking of the first known histories.

  1. The Biblical flood, where Noah was mentioned gives us the most complete version of that Flood that killed the wicked men who did not believe in God.

    Genesis 6:22
Noah did everything just as God commanded him.

On some TV documetary it was stated that there was a world wide event recorded in the fossil record, that above and below this event conditions and life were different. At this boundry layer is a vein rich in Iridium, an element rare on earth but more common in meteors. A violent impact from space may have been the trigger; the flood the result. Besides raining for 40 days and nights the Bible states that “all the springs of the great deep burst forth” (Gen. 7:11). Further evidence of flooding are mass graves of prehistoric animals. If a lion or cape buffalo dies today on the African plane you do not get fossils because generally the bodies are scavanaged. Even if they fall into a river they are likely to be eaten by fish/crocs/etc. For example, Asiatic lions are known to have existed in Palestine, but there is no fossil evidence as far I know. However there are mass graves of various prehistoric animals which can best be explained by rapid burial by mud, and examples are found worldwide. God’s Word has been found to be very acurate in archeology, in history, and in prophesy. Are there gaps in our knowledge of science and the Bible? Certainly, but someone seeking truth should not discount the record lightly.

    Hi C M D,
The mass graves of prehistoric animals are, I believe, still a mystery, which could be explained by sudden flooding, of which I speak above. As for the level spread of iridium in the geological record, I believe this has been put down to the collision that hit the Yucatan peninsula in about 70 million BC – better known as the meteor that did for the dinosaurs.

My favorite explanation for the many flood stories is theorized by Graham Hancock in his book “The fingerprints of the Gods.”

    Hi TheWonderfulNothing,
    Hancock tells it well.

Then there’s the Sphinx at Giza, which has vertical fissures which could have been caused by (lots of) rainfall or perhaps flooding, according to John West and geologist Robert Schoch. If true, it could mean that the Sphinx dates back thousands of years before the pyramids and that weather patterns (just after the last Ice Age?) were very different to now in Egypt. Could be there was severe (and prolonged?) local flooding, at least. I think Graham Hancock has covered this too, but can’t remember which book, off-hand.

    Hi Alex,
Due to the retreat of the glaciers, the African monsoon was much further north from about 8000 – 3000BC, bringing rains to the area. The ‘desert’ we now have was created as the monsoons retreated south after this period.
I deal with Giza, including the Sphinx, here:

It is very natural for there to be such results of
    our actions.
Human activities may bring people into harmony or
dissonance, depending on their motives. The story
of The Flood is an excellent example of what can
happen when people go bad. Edgar Cayce discusses
cataclysmic events which are to be caused by
“immoral” human behavior. He mentions mental
energies, which current science is unaware of,
    having unexpected consequences from gravitational
disturbances they create within the Sun.

Most ancient civilisation mention a deluge or flood, some way they knew what was going to happen in the future.

It might not be a literal flood, it was more a reference to the modern western attitude and our obsession with consumerism. Basically if you cant see or feel the flood, your soul is drowning or is dead already.

Obviously sea levels did rise after the ice age but not to the point of worldwide destruction. Ancient cultures had a completely different mind set compared to us in modern times. This could be due to the advancements made without the influence of media and consumerism.

I am very willing to open ideas and accept that this theory might be well off the mark but is well worth exploring.

Ancient cultures expanded inwards where in modern times we live externally to ourselves. In conclusion, the ancients could see the path of evoultion and realised what the our current living conditions would be like. Hence the reference of a flood in every culture, these days everyone knows about the shopping habits of the Beckhams because it’s in our collective unconscious now(whether you like it or not),all I’m saying is that what if there was something vastly different in the collective unconscious 2000-3000 years ago. Through the medium of symbolic representation, they tried to guide future generations??

    Hi Derwowski,
An interesting supposition. Worth thinking about. Could an ancient archetype have been responsible for such a mentality? As waters rose, causing local deluges, could they have associated disaster with a disastrous future?
Certainly society was on the change at this time, as myths show, with their association with agriculture. Hunter/gatherer was giving way to the farmer.

How did Noah fit all those dinosaurs on the ark?

  12. anthonynorth said

    Hi Ask Eptic,
Not sure what dinosaurs have to do with my theory. Not everyone who writes about the Flood accepts the Biblical version.

  13. Derwowski said

    Hi Anthony,

Thanks for the response. I’ve been pondering the flood myth and it’s content for quite some time now.

I agree that an ancient archetype(an archetype with no interference)was responsible for the mentality at the time worldwide. I believe we still have access to this archetype because some have the ability to spot ancient symbolic representation.

On to Noah, could it be he was actually a time period representation due to his age? Humans are animals when we remove ourselves from the lofty pedestal we placed ourselves upon. Noah took two of every animal onto the ark, male and female. Could this be a representation on the two Hemispheres of the brain, the left and right or male and female as coined by many Psychologists. The ark could an optional symbolic safe hold from the Metaphorical flood.

I agree again that they sighted the floods as the end of the world at the time and used this as a Metaphor with regards to the disaster and ruin of the human mind.

Lots of ancient civilizations believed there were a series of underworlds that the human race had to passage. This was really evident with Maya mythology, Dionysius the Areopagite and Norse beliefs. Of course there are more examples but would be silly to list them all. It just so happens that the flood myth coincides with the ages of law and punishment and industrialization, which leaves us in the mess we are now.

On the astrological Precession of the equinoxes, we are in the age of Pisces which is represented by two fish. The age of Pisces also coincides with the age of the flood. Maybe the two fish of Pisces also represent the two Hemispheres of the brain and the fact they were fish means that they could survive in the flood…..maybe???

There is an interesting reference to the Pisces symbol, if you push the two halves so that overlap, you find you have the symbol of the Ichthys…..Which is a fish. Coincidence maybe??

One other note on the astrological side of things is that the next stage of the precession is Aquarius (the water bearer),maybe this is the age of reason, when maybe we discover our true purpose, what the flood really is or was and what caused the mental flood???

Everything is hidden in plain sight and as Aldous Leonard Huxley said, Facts do not cease to exist because they are often ignored

I’d love to hear what you think of my points Anthony, they are stabs in the dark fueled mainly by intrigue.

  14. anthonynorth said

    Hi Derwowski,
I don’t think I’d go as far as you do regarding specifics in ancient symbolism, but certainly my own ideas lead to an understanding of ‘archetypes’ as specific elements – stimuli, emotions, etc – within the human mind. As they are fully represented in mythology, I feel this is a way in which our aspirations come out in culture.
Over time, this feed-back system could well define our future actions, beliefs, etc.

    Must admit, though, it’s intriguing.

The Truth About Noah and the ‘Worldwide Flood’

  18. Hello,

The Sphinx and three pyramids are marker of time of new αώ cycle that will be finished after few centuries in 2,400 ± 50. This is a message send by ancient civilization to us about finished old αώ cycle. Ancient anniversary Zep-Tepi had been sacred to new αώ cycle and was the proof about the beginning of the new αώ epoch.
We have a greatest epoch of the prohibited History. Lots of artifacts of the pre-flood history are forbidden by false “fathers” of the mainstreams. 30,000 Atlantian or Olmecian artifacts found by Scottish Mineralogist and Archeologist William Niven are hidden in the museums of New York and Mexico. Lots of so called “researches” are written for the money, not for the Truth. They could rise lots of money for the falsification of the our real history. “Fathers” of the falsifications led by Dr. Zahi Hawass and Dr . Mark Lehner have the ostrich position against the modern discoveries made by many investigators. These video clips in the link are taken from the interesting investigations and closely connected to the much more sensational discovery that the Atlantis City. If you know Geology can understand everything!
    http://www.cosmogeology.ge/chapter-25.htm

The Giza complex is sacred to the global geo-catastrophe that started on 21 October 12,475 (10,465 B.C.) years ago. Sphinx indicates epoch of the event, i.e. Leo’s epoch. Three stars of the Orion’s belt indicate the three Giza pyramids at the event boundary and causeway from the middle pyramid to the sphinx indicates sunrise, i.e. 21-22, 23 October during the event. Of 21 October to 23 October continued EB geo-transfer and terrible earthquakes that formed last global deluge all over the Earth. Under the crust situates huge Magma Ocean. Approximately deepness of the fiery Magma Ocean is measured ~400km. Mantle plumes discovered by many geologists are the proof about powerful liquid waves within the Magma Ocean. The waves are formed by penetration or rapid movement of the fiery liquid masses from the outer nucleus into the Magma Ocean (Asthenosphere). Reversal and recovery of the global Magnetic field, powerful wave deformation of the crust, runaway subductions and kilometers high tsunamis and partially or global extinctions are side effects only.

The Giza project began by survived Atlantians after 10,465 B.C. and finished approximately in 10,400 B.C. Of course the project had been sacred to last global deluge. Thus minimal age of the Sphinx and three pyramids is that – 10.400+2010=12.410 years. It has no alternative.Whole Elite of the modern Geology want to say to egyptologist that the Sphinx has the much older age but the egyptologists have the ostrich position ??????

  19. The megalithic complex of the Giza sacred to last global deluge in 10,465B.C. To explain each periodical global deluge we have additional proofs as well. There are discovered shift and reversal of the magnetic poles by many scientists. Scientific falsifications are interrelated to the wrong authorities and they have the ostrich position against my discoveries but the reversal events have been discovered by best scientists, best intellectuals of the world. The reversal event has an interesting and only explanation. These events are the proofs about powerful liquid waves within outer nucleus. Only one force of the universe can do it. This is an amazing geological force EB geo-transfer. It causes penetration or rapid movement the outer nucleus masses under the crust and mantle plumes, powerful liquid waves within Magma Ocean, deformation all over the crust, kilometers high tsunamis and shifting all lithosphere platforms over the 1000-1500km. Shift of the geographical poles are discovered by many scientists as well. shift of all lithosphere platforms over the 1000-1500km means drifting of the continents for few days over the 1000-1500km. Only one force of the universe can do something like this – powerful liquid waves under the crust, within Magma Ocean.
Thus future of the modern geology is that Gradualism + catastrophic plate tectonics [periodical global deluges all over the earth]. It means that every 7,000-13,000 years runaway subduction and drifting of the continents for few days over the 1000-1500km.

  20. The Egyptology – pseudoscientific field.
I’m very sorry but this is the truth. Modern Egyptology is died and needs to be recovered from the new roots. Triumph of the false degrees and false authorities have already produced dead full crisis in the historical sciences as well. Who is the blame?
    1. For decades falsification of the mankind’s history by false degrees.
    2. Lots of “researches” on ancient history, written for the money, not for the truth.
    3. The false dating for the pre-flood (before 10,465 B.C.) and post-flood megalithic constructions.
    4. Absolutely ignorance of the geological data in dating for the pre-flood (before 10,465 B.C.) and post-flood megalithic constructions.
    5. Non-scientific hysteria in the mass-media against true discoveries on forgotten greatest history.
    6. An amazing discoveries by Rene Schwaller de Lubicz, John Anthony West, Dr. Robert shock, Graham Hancock, Prof. Charles H. Hapgood, William Niven and other intellectuals including my ground breaking investigations.
    7. Silence by many Egyptologists about the amazing discoveries.
    8. Selective investigations with disappearance of the many unacceptable data.
    ….etc.
Falsification of the greatest pre-flood and post-flood history, mainly began by first Egyptologists and have come to the extreme limit by modern Egyptologists led by greatest false-makers and false authorities of the historical sciences: Dr. Zahi Hawass and Dr . Mark Lehner. Restoration date of the pre-flood and post-flood megalithic construction does not mean that the amazing artifacts have been built at the dynastic epoch?????
I’m ready to defend each my word in the debates or in the law-court. I’ve ordered the place in the “scientific graveyard” for the Egyptology. An amazing truth on pre-flood and post-flood history is decoded and all old books on history should be edited to rewrite…
Position of the “Ostriches’ and ignorantes’ ” have already killed the science and the Egyptology is “rotten to the bones”.
I’m vary sorry once again on my world announcement – Egyptology as a science has already DIED!…

  21. Hi K Margiani,
I think you’ve made your point now.

  22. Dear reader I’ve many discoveries!
All well-known pyramids of Egypt: “Khufu’s”, “Khafre’s”, “Menkaure’s”, Djoser’s, Meidum, bent and red pyramids are sacred to Atlantis people, to revere souls of the Atlantis people. Additionally the Giza complex exactly indicates the astronomical date of the deluge (22±1 October 10,465B.C.). Thus the Giza complex had been sacred to global deluge in 10,465B.C. as well. Symbolical graves in the pyramids have been sacred to victims, to their souls. The treasures, things and tools in the closed rooms of the pyramids are the heavenly gifts for the souls.
